Getting started
About ten minutes. You need a Google account and an admin login for at least one of Zeffy, Givebutter or Donorbox.
1. Make your copy
- Go to Get your copy. Google asks whether you want to make a copy.
- Click Make a copy. The copy, and the script that runs Donor Sync inside it, are yours, in your Google Drive. Rename it if you like, for example "Donor data".
2. Open the sidebar and allow the script
- In your copy, open Extensions > Tidyfield Donor Sync > Open sidebar. The menu appears a few seconds after the spreadsheet loads.
- Google asks you to authorize the script. Choose your account. Google then shows "Google hasn't verified this app". Click Advanced, then Go to Tidyfield Donor Sync (unsafe), read the list of permissions and click Allow. Why Google shows this.
- Open Extensions > Tidyfield Donor Sync > Open sidebar again. The sidebar opens on the right.
3. Connect a platform
In the sidebar, open Sources. Each platform has a short guide under "How to get your API key". Paste the key and click Connect. Donor Sync tests the key before saving it.
- Zeffy
- Givebutter
- Donorbox (needs Donorbox's paid API access)
- Anything else: import a CSV file
4. Sync
On Home, click Sync now. The first sync downloads your history from the start date in Settings (two full years back by default). A large history can take a few rounds; the sidebar keeps going by itself and shows its progress.
When it finishes, your tabs appear: Dashboard, Gifts, Donors, Recurring, Campaigns, Appeal lists, Statements and Sync log. What each tab shows.
5. Keep it up to date
In Settings, set Automatic sync to every hour, every 6 hours or once a day. It runs with your Google account even when the spreadsheet is closed. More about automatic sync.
You can add your own columns and formulas next to the synced data, rename tabs and move columns. Syncs only update Donor Sync's own columns. Please do not rename the column headers Donor Sync created; it uses them to find its columns.
